Chapter 4 :"Revelations"
Tristan stood on the balcony outside his tower, as had become his morning ritual, waiting to greet the day. The sound of crashing waves came to him. He tasted the salty brine of the sea upon the breeze and welcomed it like an old friend. Just three weeks ago he and a small company of his countrymen had set sail for a home most of them had never known. They had fought pirates, orc patrols, ettins, and stormed the tunnels of the lighthouses that held for decades closed Breezae's path to the sea. They had slain the red dragon and its foul orc hoards and released the chains that had long closed the protected port. He lost seven members of his honor guard that day. Seven friends, that were to him family. Life begins a new in a city that had all been snuffed out by evil and despair. He watched the flashing beacons of those same lighthouses now as the sun painted the sea with bright yellows and gold. He was the Duke of these people he had never known. With the help of his small company and others along the way, the Prince returned home to claim his birthright and moved unknown amongst them for a time. Tristan learned much about them and had done what he could to ease there suffering. Almost two weeks to the day, he had been revealed to them and crowned their Lord.
He thought of the Lady that was just down the corridor from his apartments. Her long flowing raven hair that shimmered like water. He saw her golden complexion, that perfect face and those emerald eyes where storms seemed to dance. The fragrance of her came rushing from his memory to bombard his senses with lavender and honeysuckle blooms. This woman he had loved since his earliest memories of her. The woman to which he was betrothed. Celestae, oh how he loved her. The calls of the seagulls and other water birds brought him from his revelry. He stared in disbelief at first as Three Osprey war ships approached from the western channel and behind them were the tall sails of merchant vessels. Six under sail and two more being towed with their main mast gone. The three Ospreys and the three lead merchants flew his colors. The other three flew the colors of Nicholae. It would be some time before they made the Naval Enclave and the wharves below. He ran down the marble corridor with its life like dragon tapestries to the Oak door of Celestae's apartments. "Celestae," he yelled, as he burst into her room followed by a gruff looking steward. "Good morning my love" he said as he kissed her. "The Ospreys are here with our three merchantmen, and five other vessels. Three of my Uncles and two, I think, were pirate ships that are in tow. Get dressed and ride down with me," he exclaimed. Then kissed her noisily all over her lovely face which made her giggle. Although, it could have been her chamber maid telling him this that was not proper as she assailed him with a cushion from a nearby chair. Then as fast as he had come he was gone yelling as he went down the corridor "The Osprey's have come." Other doors near the stairs opened and his Honor Guard came out buckling on swords and carrying their bows.
They were mounted and waiting as Celestrae appeared with Sheldon who had a slice of ham in one hand and pastry in the other. The small company's horses hooves rang out on the granite to be replaced by the hollow thud as the rode across the drawbridge. Stern faced palace guard in their full elven plate saluted as they rode by. They rode towards a fiery haired elfess that shouted orders and sent sailors and dock men scurrying to comply. All the while waving her cutlass as she moved out on to the main granite quay. Hastily they dismounted and followed her as the first of the Osprey, threw mooring ropes to waiting dock hands. A muscular Elf, a bit shorter than Tristan, jumped the thee foot gap and ran across the dock to grasp him in a bear hug and spin him around before setting him down and moving on to kiss Celestae. He would have hugged the fire haired Sandy, but she held him off with her cutlass shaking her finger at him, before giving in and kissing the Prince of Nicholae soundly. "Good morning to you too Sopaul", she added as blush colored his cheeks.
"I brought you two presents, to add to your navy Cousin. They came after one of fathers ships that ran as bait just ahead of the rest. By the time they figured out it was not alone, it was too late and the Ospreys ran them down and crippled them. More of the gold tusk Pirate band." he added as he greeted the others with hand shakes and hugs." Nigel and a very bossy chamber maid are here. She is named Amelia. She marched into the throne room and informed Father she would need her things put aboard one of his ships. Mother of course found it humorous and told him he best get cracking. Amelia turned thanked mother and stomped down to the waterfront."
Tristan looked at Sandy, she nodded and grinned. Celestrae and Ripley each took one of SoPaul's arms and tuned him away from the Osprey asking about the fight with the Pirate ships. The captain lowered the Ontillean Navy flag and ran up the flag of Prince Sopaul's coat of arms. The Captain gave the Ontillaen flag to Sandy and sat quietly on a barrel nearby. Sheldon pointed up at the flag and said "Now how did that get up there?" When Sopaul turned to see, there was his heraldry upon the flag. Everyone including the crew yelled "Happy Birthday" even if it was four days late.
Sheldon then promptly turned to him, grapping his neck and waist band proceeded to tossed Prince SoPaul into the sea. When the prince re-emerged sputtering. He yelled, "I love you guys, life has been so dull without you in Nicholae."
The small company as they had come to call themselves, fished the soggy Prince from the sea. They made their way to the main merchants wharf and waited to collected Niles and Miss Amelia who clung to Celestae for quite some time. The small company made their way up to the palace and were given spacious rooms.
"Sopaul, I have set these rooms aside for you, aunty, uncle. They are just across the Hall from my own." Tristan pulled his cousin close in a brotherly hug. "I have so missed you dear cousin. So many times i wanted to run back to the tower in Nicholae. So, I could share my adventures with you or ask your council." Tristan poured his cousin a tankard of firemead and they walked out onto the balcony. "So much, has happened here."
Prince SoPaul, stood there on the balcony his white hair tossed in the wind. "You, know Tristan. We are not just cousins. You and I are brothers of the heart. You will always be considered part of the Nicholae Royal Family. Mother and Father have always considered you their son." SoPaul stood a moment deep in thought then burst out laughing. "For all those decades the people of Nicholae considered you one of their Princes. Fact of the matter is, You cousin, are next inline for the throne of Nicholae after me." He laughed again, filling their tankards. "We all thought, we were keeping some big secret. You really are a Prince of Nicholae. Your mother was my father's sister, and a Princess of Nicholae. Looks like, the joke is actually on us my cousin." The paired grinned sheepishly at one another then drained their tankards.
Tristan and his small company, and new arrivals met in the vaulted sitting roomof his apartments. Great arched windows faced the sea. They talked of their adventures and renewed their friendships. Later, that evening Lord Talon and Lady Astrid joined them, since they too, now resided in the Palace.
Captain Sandy joined them for dinner and told them of the captured cargo's. "The smaller of the two had one hundred crates of Aquaelinian forged long sword's for a total of five thousand swords, as well as chain shirts, helms, and shields to outfit five thousand. The ship is Aquaelinian so it is truly hard to say if they were taking the arms somewhere or just captured the ship cargo and all. The big one is a Kellesaen ship and has one hundred crates of spice's fifty crates of seeds mostly vegetables and grain and farm implements. It also contained hand tools, tack for both horses and oxen. The cargo originated in Vallenar would be my guess. She said opening the harbor master's log book. Lord Andalae and Lady Renee sent us in one ship five hundred chickens, two hundred ducks and geese, and a hundred head each of oxen, cows, sheep , and hogs. The water front looks like a barnyard", she chuckled. Our friends Terrance and Alvin are getting paid to haul away the manure which they are stock piling for fertilizer. Those two fall in manure and laugh at their good fortune." She said and they all laughed. "The second one has sailcloth, uniforms, Arrows, longbows, beans and cured hams. They final ship has private goods of a group of seven merchants wanting to rent market stalls. An instrument maker and two master glassblowers all originally from here. They packed up there shops and came home. Several families came as well. They tell me Feanor has a massive list of folks wanting to come home. Three Ospreys are being built in our Nicholae Enclave and three in Slaenslocke. The Dwarven King, is funding six ships now and six in the spring. Pirates have all but, put a stop on sea trade. He has Authorized us to operate are Enclave in Temple Rock, near the capitol. We keep what we seize and are welcome in all ports. Feanor sent copies. For our records, along with charts of the coast of Slaenslocke provide by King Deepstone. They want to trade raw gemstones and marble for timber. Feanor is suppose to be sending Seven ships as soon as the Osprey's there are completed. Perhaps a month to two months. Our own five Osprey's here are a month or so from completion. The gnomes figured a way to cure wood faster. That has cut our build time in half. That is all I have Tristan." Sandy finished. Soon our Navy will boast a fleet of fourteen to fifteen Ospreys." Captain Sandy added as an afterthought.
"That is great news. Our goal is a fleet of fifty Osprey by years end. This will allow us to patrol our own coast, and the shipping lanes around Maestalae, Nicholae, Slaeneslocke, Kellesae, and of course, Our Ontillae. We need to send an ambassador to Kellesae. First, item they need to address is reopening our naval conclaves there. I believe the enclaves are considered embassies in Kellesae." Tristan turned to Niles, and continued after a pause to sort his thoughts. "Niles, please have Feanor send ambassadors to Slaenslocke and Maestalae as well. I want to get the Ontillian embassies reopened. Have the embassies seek out other stranded Ontillians that may wish to return home. I will set aside one quarter of our cargo space, On all returning merchant vessels. This will be reserved for bringing our stranded people home. The two new additions to our merchant fleet will cross between Nicholae and Ontillae with an Osprey escort till all those on Ambassador Feanor's list have been returned home to Ontillae."
"It will be as you say my Prince." Niles replied rising to make his report. "The salt, timbers, and Iron Ingots were a hit in Nicholae, My Prince," Niles began. "I filled all three Ships with flour, wheat, barley, rye, hops, kegs of fruit, vegetables, and sapling fruit tree's in two of them, and the requested two hundred head of horses. Plow, riding, and Warhorses from sea mist military ranch. Our recruitment efforts have blossomed, so I brought six hundred marines as well to bolster the Enclave here. I will take stock of your assets here as soon as I get settled. Lady Astrid has offered to help me, for which I am most thankful to her." He turned to smile at Lady Astrid. "Might I add my Prince it is so good to be home. I have missed thee and all of you terribly."
The rest of the night was filled with the swapping of news, tales of adventures and the renewing of friendships. Lunarae had risen high in the night sky when they made their way to bed.
Early, before most had awakened Celestae dressed stopping only for a moment to cover Amelia, her fussy, over protective steward with one of her quilts. She belted on her sword and slipped quietly into the corridor. The guards nodded to her. as she held a finger to her lips. Something was not quite normal about these palace guards. They seldom spoke and when they did it was a bit archaic in stile. She wound her way between the great columns and the vaulted ceilings of the palace. Atlast, she came to the formal garden and inhaled deeply as the floral fragrances released the last of her stiffness. A large marble tower rose from one corner with its engraved blocks. Deer stood by the little meadow brook, a squirrel, chased another barking in play as they circled a tree. She made her way passed the koi ponds and the waterfall to the tower's backside. There on the ground lay a great glowing green disc. It emitted a soft humming sound. As she had, as a young girl she hopped onto the disc and shimmered with golden light. When the light had faded Celesta was inside a round chamber in the tower interior. "Grand father? Its me Celestae where are you?" She climbed the stairs and emerged in the Library, the walls were completely lined with bookshelves and tables of scrolls ink and parchment. A small dragon came swooping down from where he had sat perched watching her and landed on her shoulder and tickled her ear with its long forked tongue. "Hello Sting, I have missed you too," Celestae said. She stroked his neck with her index finger causing the little pseudo dragon to purr and rub against her finger. "What have you done with grandfather this morning?" she teased, moving toward the hearth.
"In here, my Hatchling", came his voice from the high backed arm chair before the fire. "I see, you have stolen my familiar's attention's, So soon does Sting forget his Master when you are about my child." He laughed, as the little drake flickered its tongue and hissed at him before rubbing up against Celestae's neck. "What brings you out before the sun my little Hatchling?" He questioned. Kalix stroked her luxurious wealth of raven hair as she knelt on the thick rug at his feet and lay her head against his knee, Celestae released a deep sigh.
"Tell me about my heritage Grandfather. I want to know and you told me, you would tell me when I was older." She removed sting from her shoulder, who began to protest till she placed him in her lap, forgiving her almost immediately when she began to scratch and stroke his lavender neck. " I am, an adult now and you promised,
" she reminded him. Though Celestae looked, and always acted like an adult, she felt like that little girl. Who had always sat here like this with her head resting against her grandfathers knees as he would tell her stories of the places and things he had seen.
"Very well child, during the thousand-year war the dragons of Shalendrae had retreated here to present day Ontillae, pursued by the elves. Once, the elves like the dragons, had populated every corner of this fine world. But near the end the remnants retreated here for one last battle, if it had taken place both our proud and at that time foolish races would have disappeared forever. For great was our power and that of the Elves. We had blasted tops from mountains and set Ancient forest ablaze in our determination to rid the world of the other. We crafted great items of war, Such as talking sword that had their own awareness and great battle armor forged from mithril and adamantine. Gems that could see all that was hidden and ones that boosted our power. So many, were the inventions on both sides. Each beautiful and graceful, and each if used a certain way deadly." He sighed as if the memories of those times pained him. "Only two great clans of the gold Dragons were left, Clan Sunbringer and Clan Talon. We, the Dragons, had made Sunbringer our King when Gixustrat the red was killed here. In present day Breezae. Know you child the metallic dragons, do you remember their breeds my Hatchling?" he quizzed her.
She closed her eyes and began to recite. "There are the Brass and Bronze, the Coppers and Golds, the Silvers and the Steels. These are the most common but others exist such as Zinc, Iron, Mithril, Adamantine and Tin. But they seldom come to this plane of existence." She finished looking up at her smiling grandfather seeking his approval.
"Very good my beloved, and can you also tell be the chromatic breeds." He quizzed taking delight in her.
"There are the Blacks and the Blues, the Greens and the Reds, the Browns and the Yellows and the Whites. There are other colors as well but, they also try to stay hidden as do the ever neutral gem dragons and countless other breeds." She recited again seeking his approval and beaming when she got it.
"It appears you did listen to your old grandfather just a bit," He teased laughing as she punched his knee." As you know dragons always have a king and at the beginning of the war it was the ancient and evil red Gixustrat. His need for carnage had all but caused us to go extinct. We the metallic dragons decided it was time for a new king and Talon and Sunbringer our greatest warriors went in search of Gixustrat and did war upon him and his mate. Long did the battle rage and all near exhaustion fought on. When a group of elves led by Shaelendar himself happened into that meadow. Talon boomed at them "Leave this place elf king we want no war with thee." Shaelendar taken by surprise watched as the two reds and the golds fought. Finally, he spoke quietly to his troops and cast they their spears enchanted to seek the hearts of dragons at the reds. Thus was the King Gixustrat laid low with his mate. "I want no war with thee either noble ones" they then went their own way for a time before meeting in that meadow surrounded by mountains. Did you know Breezae encompasses that large meadow? He questioned. When she nodded he smiled and continued. "I bet you did not know that the rock where they met is the foundation stone of Tristan's Palace and the Dragon temple did you?" He leaned down kissing the top of her head as she shook it no. Clan Sunbringer gave three daughters. Clan Talon also gave three. I my child, am the son of the eldest daughter. Talon was my Grandfather as I am yours. So you see my dear Celestae you are of some of the most noble blood in Shaelendria. As is, Tristan, your Prince. You are both Elves, but you are both also Dragons. You are the Drelven, The hope of two proud and powerful races. Does that help at all my Hatchling?" Kalix inquired looking down into her emerald eyes smiling as he saw the lightning with in. "It was the death of Gixustrat, that drove a wedge between the Metallic and the Chromatic dragons. They are seeking revenge upon not only us, but the Elves as well. This is at the core of our enemies hatred."
"It does, for now, My Grand Sire." She lifted the sleeping form of Sting and placed the little dragon gently in her grandfather's lap she kissed several times all over his face and went back down to the Gardens below. Celestae still had some nagging doubts and decided to go to the chapel of Dragon's and seek answers. Today she would have some. She burned with an unquenchable passion for her Prince, and she meant to have him this very night.
As Lady Celestae entered the chapel of Elerrinar she noticed that the domes of stained glass windows sparkled in the sunlight and seemed to reflect a rainbow of color unto the grounds surrounding the chapel. She also realized that in its restored state. The city dragon chapel was an understatement of terms. Large green granite blocks made up the surrounding walls. In the front courtyard was a huge statue of a golden dragon. It sat before the great waterfall fountain. Ancient oaks larger in diameter then a wagon wheel stood majestically about. Around their bottoms grew lavender, rosemary, and jasmine. The walk way was made of yellow cobblestone carved to resemble the scales of a great Dragon. It led through rose and honeysuckle covered arch ways with many smaller paths leading off into the vastness of the surrounding Gardens. At last the main path led into the open entry portal of the chapel. As she walked into the interior great murals depict Elves and Dragons fighting side by side. Others depict Elves and Dragons almost as one creature. Some were wearing crowns and some did not. Celestae paused, momentarily at one such mural "that is the spitting image of Kalix," she told herself. Then remembering her self appointed mission she proceeded into the main Audience hall.
Great archways of oak trunks covered in hammered gold support the the great stained glass windowed domes above. Walnut panels and lavender curtains surrounded her. The smell of incense lay heavy upon the air. On a raised platform carved to look like the leaves and ferns of the forest floor. A huge mural of Elerrinar was painted on the back wall. She decided there and then to experiment with the idea of her having a dragon heritage. Celestae pushed out with her mind and called out "Elerrinar, will you speak with me great one?"
A deep voice answered her silent uncertain call." So little Celestae, you decided to see if it is all true. It is and you do. A golden shower appeared before her and when it left an Elven figure of shimmering gold stood before her. His Ocean blue eyes revealing his wisdom and ageless knowledge. I have heard the heralds as they call out the good news of you upcoming wedding in a few short days. I offer thee my congratulations to you and the Prince. Know this, little Celestae you are of Kalix and Talon's linage, The House of Talon should give you a hint. I am Elerrinar Sunbringer, Elder of the Clan Sunbringer, and Protector of Breezae and the Royal line. I would also be a far distant cousin to thee. For once all the Gold Dragons were or one clan. I assume that you have come to make a request of me my child? You know that my Priestess Hilfurania will preside over the official wedding but I believe it is a more personal matter that has caused thee to summon me."
Celestae was surprised when the elf form appeared in front of her. She could not, however, contain the smile that appeared across her lips. It was true and he confirmed that. She curtsied deeply before him, the great respect she had for him radiating from her gesture. She had not thought that Kalix lied to her about her heritage, but she had to know it herself. It had to be proven beyond the shadow of a doubt within her mind.
"Before you ask, come child take my hand, so we might enjoy a private moment between reunited kindred." Elerrinnar offered his hand to Celestae. When her hand met his she became enveloped in a golden shower of light. When the light had passed she found herself upon Elerrinar's neck, and he was winging his way high above the city. The great dragon dived down towards the sea and leveled out just above the water. The salty brine of the ocean filled her senses as the wind blew her raven hair loose and it trailed behind her. For a brief moment, her mind tried to fear. Celestae grabbed onto him tightly and closed her eyes. Just as quickly, her heart took the fear from within her. She could not be frightened of their excursion. It was natural, familiar to her somehow. Never loosing her grip on him, she tossed her head back. Her hair whipped, and flew behind her in a great ripple of shining ebony. The warmth of the passing wind set her soul free. She laughed along with her kindred. The elfess was as free as she had ever been. This was right, this was home. Celestae felt the great strength of her kindred that bore her upon his back, he circled and flew south around the shore of Breezae. Then in a slow climb they flew straight up the cliff face of the shore and landed for but a second. Elerrinnar flipped backwards, and dived down to skim the sea once more. Occasionally letting a talon or his tail tip drag the ever moving surf, A great watery fan of water would fly up high behind them and a fine spray touched her golden face. Seagulls and an occasional Pelican would squawk their alarm and annoyance at their passing. Elerrinar's deep hearty musical laughter could be heard echoing in her mind. Then the dragon flew up higher and higher until Breezae disappeared below the white puffy clouds. Then in the mist of one of those clouds he had unnoticeable changed directions, and they were now plummeting down towards Breezae far below. He slowed and began to spiral down only to dive towards the chapel once more. Then in a shower of golden light Celestae sat upon the Golden Elf's lap upon the forest floor platform. Excitement and exhilaration filled her as she laughed. Then as Celestae, looked deep into her kindred's eyes she saw her own reflection there and perhaps its was just a trick of the light, but she seen a lightning flash in the emerald eyes of her own reflection. That same flash that appeared in his, and those of Kalix, and even her fathers. Now that she thought of it, it was always in the ocean blue of her Tristan's eyes. Happiness and freedom built and erupted from deep within, and she knew that these were all her Kindred." Now then child, my gift given what is it that hath brought you here to seek me out?"
Never before had she felt that wonderful, that free. Her mind was satisfied now, she knew that she belonged here, with her kin. She smiled at his question, as she had nearly lost sight of why she had come to him to begin with. She looked around to ensure that they were utterly alone. She wanted none to hear her request. "I know that your priestess is to do our public ceremony, however." she leaned closer, so she would have to whisper. "Tristan and I would like to marry privately. What I mean is, well, We would still go through with the big wedding and all that, but we wish you to marry us; tonight. It would be in secret, my kindred, none would know but those that we wished to stand in witness to it." She smiled innocently and it was real enough. She took his hands in her own and continued. "This secret ceremony would be a testament to our true love for each other. I want to show him that I love him, not the prince or the king to be, but him Tristan Breezae. It would be for our benefit only. The big wedding will be grand and wonderful still, but this I truly want. I ask for nothing else from you, cousin...only that. Please, say you'll do it. It wouldn't be right for anyone else to preside over such a private and secretive thing." Her eyes were full of hope and a deep need as she held her bottom lip between her teeth.
The golden elf smiled at her and paused as if deep in thought." My child come to me at midnight in the chapel and I shall be honored to wed thee. This decision shows wisdom and the true devotion behind your vows. I will join thee and Prince Tristan in the way of dragon kind as it were in ages past so shall it be once again. I shall have your robes delivered to your room in Breezae. Tristan's will arrive at his room. All shall be provided for thee as it once was so it shall be again Favored Daughter of House Talon. Now I must go prepare for the ceremony to be held here this night. Have those you wish present here. May Lunarae and Solarae smile upon this union." He then kissed her gently upon the head and faded in a shower of golden light.
Celestrae's skin tingled when the dragon's lips touched her forehead. Just like that he was gone in a shower of light that caused her to look away. "Thank you, cousin." She felt victorious, nervous, and ecstatic. He had chosen to do her this favor. What had he meant by favored daughter? Odd thing to say Celestae pondered. Another time, now was time to find her prince and tell him the news. Leaving the chapel, she stood outside in the sun and bathed quietly in it for a some time. Letting it infuse her as she held her arms out almost like they were wings.
Hilfurania the chapel High Priestess stopped and smiled as she watched Lady Celestae absorbing the golden light and warmth of the morning sun. She shook her head and said only "Goldies sure do like their sunshine" and went into the chapel. Hifurania chanted her daily prayers in front of the simple altar in her chambers. Following her personal devotions, she washed and carefully donned the violet dragon scale garments that mark her as a Priestess of Clan Sunbringer, preparing to begin her daily regimen. Exiting her chambers into the hallway that connects the Main Audience Hall to the Private Audience Chambers, she checks the box hanging on the wall for any special duties, and then turned towards the Main Audience Hall.
Genuflecting before the mural of Elerrinar, she makes her way to the far northwest corner of the hall, where she unlocks one of the walnut panels, revealing a small storage closet, from which she rolls a small cart loaded with charcoal for the sensors, candles, and incense. Moving around the edges of the hall, she carefully opens the undercarriage of each sensor, refilling each with a day’s worth of charcoal atop the already glowing embers. Once the charcoal is refilled, she gently sprinkles a generous amount of incense appropriate for the season into the top, on holy days, or special celebrations others would be used. In between the sensors, in the small, side chapels, she replaces the many small, slow-burning candles, lit by believers in memory of their dearly departed. Once finished with that, she checked the large, unscented, constantly-lit candles that burn throughout the chapel as a symbol of Elerrinar’s ever-watchful eye over us all. Once finished with her daily work in the Main Audience Hall, she moves to the smaller, side chapels all around it, leaving an ample supply of candles, charcoal tablets, and incense for the daily worshipers.
When these tasks are completed, she wheeled the cart back to the supply closet, restocking it from the shelves there, then making a list of supplies needed from the city market. She retrieved a leather pouch from one of the shelves, closed and locked the walnut panel behind her. Leather pouch in hand, she took another walk around the Main Audience Hall and the surrounding smaller chapels, as she went, emptying the coffers into the leather pouch.
Back in her chambers, she slips her daggers into their convenient hiding places within her dragon scale garments, tucks the leather pouch into her vest, slips on her haversack, clasps her cloak at her throat, and makes her way to the small stable next to the chapel. There she saddles her brindle mare, Naomi, and together they ride for the Breezae city market.
At the market, she wasted little time, winding her way through the shouting vendors and sweet-smelling scents of perfumes and foods, and moving directly to Elerrinar’s preferred candle maker, and handing her a small list of needs, then stepping several booths down, to the specialized incense maker, and handed him a small list as well. While she waited for them to finish, she made her way to a small fresh fruit and vegetable vendor, to peruse her wares, picking out a few small items for her meals. Packing them carefully into the side pockets, she found her way back to the two previous booths, picking up a neatly wrapped parcel from each. Smiling to herself, she accepted one of the fliers from a passing herald and hops onto Naomi, urging her back towards the chapel. She thinks of Celestae standing as she had been in the sun and chuckled to herself. " They may not know or think they are dragons Naomi, but you and I know a gold one when we see it don't we girl?" She said patting her mares neck and it seemed Niomi nickered in reply.
The great and ancient Elerrinar sat in his chapel contemplating the service to take place this very night. " I must first decorate these bear columns of marble, " he said aloud, and he muttered a Draconic phrase and laced it with his innate power."Solas Orga". A golden light began to shimmer near the base of each great marble column and green vines began to entwine them. Lavender appeared to surround their base, lilac and jasmine bloomed and burst forth into flower. This caused a toothy grin to appear upon his great Draconic face. He said another phrase,"Taisce Dhomhain",and veins of gold and platinum laced the great marble stones set in the floor. With a wink of his eye pale purple curtains appeared between the columns pulled back to each post."Radharc Soileir", With those words the roof above became transparent so that the sky above was visible."Aer Cumhraithe" As he uttered those words the great golden dragon braziers began to emit fragrant columns of smoke as incense of jasmine, rosemary, and lavender issued forth. "Amhran Arsa", before he was done pronouncing the phrase soft ancient elvish music could be heard playing softly, it was light airy and jubilant. "Seod Foraoise", he spoke as he looked to the great Dias upon which they would stand, and it turned into one huge block of jade. He smiled once more at the permanent changes he made in his private forest chapel then at last he was ready to call forth the symbols of his Deities to watch over the ceremony that had waited for, for eons it seamed."Failte Roimh Chach Lunarae, Failte Roimh Chach Solarae, Failte Roimh Chach Talon, Failte Roimh Chach Sunbringer" As he spoke the words Four Ivory arches appeared upon the Dias against the wall, Lunarae's filled with a swirling mist that contained all the colors of the spectrum, they seemed to swirl excitedly round and round. The second arch filled with a great gold disc that would pulse from disk to sun then disc again. The third was filled with a multi faceted gem that slowly turned one color then another excitedly. The forth and final arch was filled with a rainbow hued nebula that spun and changed both forms and colors as if in anticipation "Welcome my Lords and Lady Divine, your humble servant has made it as presentable as I know how too. I hope it and all my fellowships toils meet you approval." He waited patiently for their reply, he had not waited long when a ivory column appeared and upon that column lay a silk down cushioned, upon that cushion were a pair of identical rings, one was a ladies and one a mans ring. The pair were of pure carved platinum, each had a twelve faceted aquamarine mounted in a bezel of radiating colors, a bright twinkle danced within each facet, and a small carved golden disc rest to either side of it. The unearthly beauty and craftsmanship of the rings was breath taking. No mortal hands could have created such rings such as these.
Elerrinar gasp, then nodded to them each in turn. " I understand and thank thee for thy gifts and blessings upon this ceremony. Lord Tristan Breezae shall be called Sword Dancer in our tounge Rinceoir Claiomh, and Lady Celetae Talon, Beautiful Gem, shall be called Seod Alainn. Yes I am pleased as well that they have chosen to be wed under the Cinniuint Dheadach Chelestrial, the Celestial Enchanted Fate is the most holy of Draconian marriage ceremonies. It is indeed fitting as they all share Dragon as well as Elvish heritage. It shall be done as you say it my lords. Will some of the others attend tonight or do they await the main ceremony, Very well. I must admit my excitement does make me near giddy with delight. I can barely contain myself. I hope the moon shines her face down upon the earth soon. If, I may be excused I know of a small nest of orc's I should like to visit to pass the time." He then bared his teeth and let forth a deafening roar. The archways seemed to glow bright then dim almost as if they were laughing at their communal priest comment. Elerrinar bowed most elegantly then went out in search of his prey.
Celestae entered the kitchens at the Prancing Unicorn and silently moved up behind her sister and goosed her from behind causing her golden haired sister to unleash a string of curses normally only heard at the waterfront. She whispered, near inaudible into her sisters ear. "Tonight...at the witching hour. Temple of the dragon. Dress nice." She knew that wouldn't make a lot of sense to her sister, but she hoped it was enough. She wanted to avoid Kalix knowing or her father for that matter. She wanted this to be very private. It should only include Tristan and herself of course, and she wanted to share it with Astrid and Sheldon and no other. Raising her voice slightly then, she patted her big sister's hand. "You have heard the news, no doubt? We have set a quick date for the ceremony. Astrid, will you stand as witness for me? Oh, please say yes!" The cheerfulness, the hope, the sincerity in Celestae's voice was unmistakable for any that overheard. That is when Tristan entered with the Nicholae Ambassador to the inn.
Lady Astrid, smiled at her Sisters attempted conspiracy, then took a finger full of a thick icing from a small pot and smeared it upon Celestae's nose. " Of course I shall be there. But quit floating a foot above the floor." she paused a moment and studied her sisters eyes. A flash of lightning rolled through her lavender eyes and was followed by a matching flash in Celestae's "I see your inner self has awakened sister, The power in your blood is coursing through your veins aware of its own existence at last. The Dragon flash is in your eyes and this means it is awake. Welcome to your awakening most favored Daughter of the Talon clan. Many generations of hopes and dreams rest on you and your beloved. The race of elves, dragons, dwarves, the meadow folk and men have awaited the return of the Ontillian king and his bride. All the countless centuries of manipulation and plotting and even the sacrifice of lives come to a head in what you have invited me to this night. How in the world did you think you could do it without me. I am destined to be at you side, as Sheldon is to be at Tristan's. You my dearest sister along with Tristan Breezae are the two most important people to walk in Shaelendria. So many fates and destines depend upon the two of you. I find myself envious at times, Once the pair of you become Prince and Princess, I shall become the Countess of Breezae. I shall run Breezae as the pair of love birds go off to run the nation. Now my serious older sister speech out of the way" Astrid grabbed up one of the dozens of icing bowls and began to smear fingers full of the thick sweet icing upon her sisters face, she giggled and began to circle like a great cat on the hunt looking for the next opportunity to smear sweet confections upon her sibling." Defend yourself silly sibling " she roared pointing to the assortment of icings on the counter. Then she smeared a big finger full on the tip of Celestae's nose. Astrid was always in good spirits, it was the Talon way to be so.
Celestrae knew Astrid, after listened to her sister's speech. The soon to be Princess, had not really thought about all the people that would depend upon her and her Tristan for the rest of their lives. The spirit of the whole nation was resting upon their shoulders. Celestae quickly began having doubts about if she was ready for this or not. She didn't doubt her love for Tristan, but was she, a scholar ranger and rouge, really capable of being a princess? Or a queen for that matter?
Astrid dipped her finger into the bowl of icing again and smeared it on Celestae's cheek this time. She began walking around the table. The ebony haired woman understood quickly and dipped both hands into the bowls on the table. "You will pay for that, barkeep!" She too began circling the table. The two played like they were children, covering each other in icing. For at least 20 minutes the girls, normally ladies continued on this way. Celestrae chased her older sister around the kitchen and vice-verse. Their laughter filtered out into the Prancing Unicorn itself.
Once the bowls were empty, Celestae embraced her sister. "Guess I need to go and clean up now. I do have a service to attend tonight. Though icing might make it interesting after the ceremony." She giggled and slapped her sister on the behind playfully. Celestrae pulled the extra icing from her face, clothing and hair. "I'm going to use my old room. That okay with you?" She knew her sister wouldn't mind, but she had to be proper and ask anyway. Astrid tossed her the master key.
Sneaking out of the kitchen and into the main room, she saw Tristan and someone else walking by the window, about to come in to the Unicorn. She raced from the door quickly and bounded up the stairs to her old room. Quickly she unlocked the door, entered, and shut it behind her, locking it as well. She chuckled to herself. "Seeing the future queen covered in icing would be the talk of the town for the next month." She hoped that she had been quick enough not to get noticed by the Tristan's quick ranger eyes. She bathed changed and slipped out the window and down the nearby oak with practiced precision. She found Sheldon near the waterfront and told him of the personal gathering that night. He agreed to let Tristan know all was ready. Then went to her apartments to take a nap. She awoke just as the moon was rising.
The silent beauty of the forest chapel caused it to twinkle like a gem in the ever brightening moonlight. Its shimmering elegance could be seen peaking out at them from between the bows of the ancient oaks and evergreens. Nightingales and other night birds seemed to sing in one voice an ancient reverent serenade. The great gold plated doors swung silently open allowing each of them entry. A small platinum colored fairy dragon led them along the path to the stairs of the main chamber. Then it dawned on them that the colored fireflies were in truth Fairy Dragons letting their magical aura's become visible. There must have been hundreds of them in every color imaginable.
Celestrae couldn't help but to reach out and try to touch one of the smallish dragon kin, but it fluttered away before her finger reached it and buzzed around her. She giggled. She knew it wouldn't happen, but she had to try.
A great white star stood out amongst the others in the star strewn sky as if it had drawn closer to witness this sacred secret event. In the pools and fountains seemed to appear a great golden disc that flashed from sun to disc again like a spinning coin. But when ever a second glance was taken it seemed to never have been there at all. Pebbles seemed to twinkle like faceted gems just ahead of them as if keeping pace. At last, they arrived at the main hall.
The scent of lilac, jasmine, and lavender hung heavy upon the air as the great doors parted to allow them entry. Flowers entwined the columns, veins of gold and platinum seemed to run through the great stones of the floor. Soft filmy shades of fine silk curtains hung between the columns, and great dragon braziers spewed forth the scents of sweet rich incenses. A great emerald colored tapestry hung from above bearing the Great Elven Oak embroidered in gold. Four Ivory arches sat upon the Dias against the wall. The first filled with a swirling mist that contained all the colors of the spectrum, that seemed to swirl excitedly round and round. The second arch filled with a great pale golden Dragon eye that remained unblinking. The third was filled with a twelve faceted amethyst that slowly turned one direction then another. The forth and final arch was filled with milky nebula or starry sky. A great pure white star stands forth ahead of the others and twinkles with silent expectation
.
The final striking change stood upon the green dais, Elerrinar, stood before them in his true dragon form. There was no mistaking that this was Elerrinar, but he had become even greater. A golden light seemed to radiate forth from him. He was encased in golden armored plates about his torso and legs. A series of connecting gold armored collars hooked together to cover his massive neck and tail. Great ivory spikes stood out in advantageous points. Upon the massive breast plate lay a multicolored disc of swirling colored mist. Below this under the central disc was an emerald colored disc bearing the gold embossed Great Elven Oak.
As the group approached Elerrinar turned his head first from Tristan, with Sheldon by his side, to Celestrae and Astrid standing proudly before him. A great toothy smile appeared upon his face. Allowing the great fangs to become visible, about the size of a long swords blade Sheldon silently noted. Almost as if Elerrinar had read his thoughts he turned his gaze back to them. Then he began to speak "Rinceoir Claiomh" "Sword Dancer" Then he turns to Lady Celestae and Lady Astrid, looking at Lady Celestae he speaks again first in draconian then in common "Seod Alainn" "Beautiful Gem".
You have come to me and the honor is mine, by asking that I preside over the ancient ritual of,"Cinniuint Dheadach Chelestrial" "Celestrial Enchanted Fates". Know hatchlings that not in over two hundred and fifty years has this ceremony been performed. It is one of the most sacred rituals of all of dragonkind. It mates a pair for life, only dragons, half-dragons and Drelven may request it. You and the witnesses all being of the Drelven Race are most qualified. Listen closely hatchlings and keep my words safe in the depths of your being. These words shall not be repeated lightly.
In Ancient times Both Elves and Dragons reached an accord one with the other. They agreed to provide a select few of their children to form a new fledgling race. This new race was to be called the Drelven. They could call upon either Pantheon or both without anger or repercussions. So it was Dragonkind and the Elves interbred and The Drelven were born. You my hatchlings are amonst their number as are most of the Ontillae Nobility. The Clans of Sunbringer and Talon are amongst the Oldest. So it is fitting that you have ask for the ceremony "Cinniuint Dheadach Chelestrial."
"Rinceoir Claiomh" Is it thine hearts desire to commit itself unconditionally to Seod Alainn's care, and Seod Alainn Wilt thou likewise surrender up thine heart to Rinceoir Claiomh's stewardship and care. You must reply in the Draconic tongue I will is Beidh Me and Ní Bheidh Me is the word for i will not. Elerrinar awaits their reply.
" Beidh Me" they replied together
Since this is the wishes of you both I shall continue on As Solarae, the Father of us all, foretold the Sword Dancer and the Beautiful Gem, Rinceoir Claiomh and Seod Alainn would meet and request Cinniuint Dheadach Chelestrial or choose to complete the Celestial Enchanted Fate. As Lunarae foretold they will take their place as rulers, and power and wealth shall come to them, some with ease and some with great toil and strife. As Sunbringer foretold wisdom is their path to success and luck and protection shall come in many forms. Long have the Dragon and Elven Nations prophesied this event. Long have the Realms of Shaelendria silently awaited the coming of this event.
Elerrinar nods and the pair of near Identical rings appear. He hands one to each Tristan and the other to Celestae." You will place your ring on the others finger upon answering Beidh Me to my next three questions one to each of you and the final one to you as a mated pair. Know young hatchlings once these bands are placed upon your lover's finger you are bound one to another for all eternity. Only your mate may remove it and then only with your consent. These bands were forged by the great Sunbringer and Talon.
When the rings were handed to them, Celestae nearly cried. She had not even thought of rings. This was really happening. She could feel the ancient metal, it was still warm. She wondered if it would always be warm. She nodded her understanding of the condition for the rings. The questions were turned to Celestae first. Tears found their way to her eyes, but she refused to let them spill just yet.
So Celestae, Seod Alainn, the Beautiful Gem and favored daughter do you except Tristan, Rinceoir Claiomh, Sword Dancer and favored son as your chosen mate? Will you battle by his side, nurse his wounds, and mother his clutch if you as a pair decide the time for young has arrived?
And Tristan, Rinceoir Claiomh, Sword Dancer favored son do you accept Celestae, Seod Alainn, the Beautiful Gem and favored daughter as your chosen mate, wilt thou battle by her side, nurse her wounds and protect her and any clutch she bears you to the death? He pauses to await their reply in elvish and waited for their reply in the Draconian tongue.
With Lunarae as the ultimate witness, the Creator of Dragonkind. Do each of you accept the Isle's of Ontillae as your Lair as you have accepted each other?
"Beidh Me," she answered to both questions. She couldn't bring herself to look at Tristan as he answered his questions. She was sure that once she looked at him, she would lose all hope of holding her composure. The rings were placed upon each of their fingers. A sensation of love washed over her as he slipped her ring on her finger.
Then with Lunarae's blessing I declare you a mated pair and Ontillae your Domain. All Dragons who live in your domain do so by your will. All others must submit to your rule or be exterminated. This is Lunarae's word and as Lunarae the Mother of all creation hath said so it shall be. Congratulations my hatchlings and welcome amongst your Dragon Kindred. May all that oppose you tremble at your footsteps.
Elerrinar pronounced the pair mates, not husband and wife. Somehow that did fit them more than anything. She knew that the big ceremony would pronounce them husband and wife, king and queen. But mates she liked much better. Heritage had been lived out on that moonlit night, in a forest chapel, under the stars, and watched by dragons from across the lands. Proud did not touch what she felt, nor did any other word she could come up with. She turned to face her lover, now husband. Tears of joy ran down her cheeks, but she did not truly cry. "From now until eternity, my love." The words were whispered, a thought escaped to her lips perhaps. Just like that, she embraced him, wasting little time, she kissed him. She invited him into her embrace, not waiting to hold anything back from him. She was his now and already enjoyed that thought.
Tristan felt fear when we saw the tears upon her perfect gold toned cheeks. It immediately disappeared when she embraced him, and he was lost in her. He drank in her beauty and took in her scent. He did not want to let her go, but he knew he must. As she whispered “ From now until eternity, my love” he to began let loose the tears he had held, and then he kissed her passionately yet again. She was his at last the woman that had so filled his thoughts and dreams was now his mate forever more.
Elerrinar came forward and breathed his saffron and incense scented breath upon each of the four that stood in this chapel under the pale moonlight blessing each one of them and whispering a single word to each "Awaken" Deep with in they felt like some hidden floodgate had opened and power and heat filled their blood.
